John Tranter Memorial, Mentoring Awards

Stuart Bedford- Mentor of Year 2017

Stuart Bedford, Director, Exton Estates explains why he is delighted to be receiving this year's award, and why being a RREF Mentor is so rewarding:

"I was delighted to be asked to be a RREF Mentor. Having gone through the Reading University BSc Land Management course completing in 1994 it was always my aim to try to give something back to both the University and the profession and the RREF programme was the ideal forum for me.

My experience of the programme was that if both sides put in the effort to meet up, discuss and keep in contact then there is a lot of benefit to both parties. I was able to assist my mentee in gaining work experience, interview preparation and make decisions on which avenue he wanted to go down having had over two decades of experience in the profession."

Frank Gaymond- Mentee of the Year 2017

Frank Gaymond, Surveyor, SEGRO (MSc Real Estate 2017) also explains how important the RREF Mentoring Programme has been to the start of his career:

"It is an honour to be awarded Mentee of the Year and I feel this reflects the excellent support from my mentor. My mentor provided career advice, feedback on applications, and arranged work-experience for me in her office. Furthermore, she always found time to answer my questions, even if it was not her area of expertise.

The RREF Mentoring Programme provided insights that augmented my university learning whilst helping to develop a network of professional contacts. I now find myself working alongside some of these contacts already with a good rapport. I am grateful to both RREF and the mentors who give up their time to provide such a valuable programme."
