Chancellor's Awards 2011

Top REP students celebrated at inaugural ceremony

The achievements of some of the top University of Reading students were recognised by the Chancellor Sir John Madejski on 7 December, including three students from Real Estate & Planning.

James Davies, BSc Real Estate, Tom Gold, BSc Real Estate and James Philo, BSc Investment and Finance in Property, were acknowledged at the inaugural Chancellor's Award ceremony celebrating those students who achieved the highest results in their subject at the end of either their first or second year of study.

80 students gathered for the reception which was hosted by Sir John. Each student received a yearbook with all the winners' names as well as congratulations and encouragement from the University's Chancellor, a successful businessman who founded Auto Trader and is currently Chairman of Reading Football Club.

Sir John said: "The University of Reading offers students a fantastic experience and a first-class environment in which to learn. Those featured in this yearbook represent our brightest and best students from across the University's broad range of academic disciplines. We are extremely proud to be able to showcase such an inspiring group of individuals."

Award winner James Philo said: "I chose to study at Reading because the School of Real Estate & Planning is the best at what they do. As an international student with career ambitions in the property industry, I wanted to achieve the best possible real estate education. Couple this with my English roots and there wasn't much of a decision to be made. I am still thrilled with my decision, and I believe the School is the best of the best."

Tom Gold added: "My decision to study at Reading was an easy one. Discussions with practicing chartered surveyors, several of whom were involved with recruitment, revealed Reading to be highly regarded with a reputation for providing exceptional graduates to the property sector. In attending Reading I have put myself in the best position for successfully achieving a graduate position within an international property firm."
