Regional Groups - connecting people

One of our key aims this year is to establish our Regional alumni groups here in the UK and across the world. Expanding the size of our existing groups and developing new ones enables people to get in touch with fellow alumni and engage with real estate professionals within the local area. In turn, industry figures in the regions gain a better understanding of RREF and Real Estate & Planning at the University of Reading.

World MapBeing part of a Regional group helps alumni broaden links, build stronger relationships and increase business opportunities with other professionals working in the sector. The groups raise the profile of RREF activities and events and help to increase involvement and attendance from Real Estate professionals and firms not already connected to RREF.

To ensure RREF is reaching out to alumni in specific regions, both in the UK and Internationally, and continuing to engage the wider real estate community, there are annual Regional Receptions in key locations such as Birmingham, Manchester and Bristol, with more on their way. Guests have the opportunity to hear from a high profile local figure speaking on a relevant topic for that region, with opportunities to network after the event.

RREF's second Birmingham Regional Reception held in September 2011 was kindly hosted by GVA at their offices in BrindleyPlace. Miles Keeping, Head of Sustainability at the firm, gave an engaging talk on key issues surrounding sustainability in property. The evening provided an excellent networking opportunity with 30 alumni and industry professionals based in the West Midlands in attendance. Gregg Judd, Senior Director at GVA, commented:

'GVA were delighted to welcome RREF to our regional office in Birmingham, it was a valuable evening enjoyed by all and it was great to see such a well attended alumni event held outside of London. RREF is an extremely beneficial network to belong to and we whole heartedly support all the work they do. We look forward to welcoming them again next year.'

In addition to organising a Regional Reception, we encourage the groups to reach out to alumni in the area and meet for informal networking events helping to forge links and grow the RREF community.

We currently have groups in the West Midlands, East Midlands, Manchester, Dublin, Germany, Singapore and Shanghi.
