Pathways to Property Update

The initiative has made significant progress since the launch in November. Schools are now engaging with activities and the project is on track to host the first Pathways to Property Summer School in July.

School engagement

Since April, presentations have been given to students in Year 12 in schools and colleges across the South of England. Presentations are given by volunteers from the real estate sector and by currentPathways to Property students of real estate and planning. Presentations help to raise awareness of the study and career opportunities to targeted students as well as promoting the upcoming Summer School. The project has reached over 250 students to date with a number of further talks scheduled. The presentations have been well received by teaching staff and students, helping to plug a gap in the provision of information on careers in this area. Thank you to all who given their time to support these events.

Presentations will continue in September when further volunteers will be needed to help deliver talks. If you are interested in helping with school visits, please click here to register your interest.

Donor engagement

On 22nd May, Pathways to Property held a breakfast meeting for firms supporting the initiative. The meeting was hosted by British Land and attended by The Sutton Trust, BNP Paribas Real Estate, Cushman & Wakefield, CBRE, DTZ, Gerald Eve, Jones Lang LaSalle, Knight Frank, Lambert Smith Hampton, Redevco, Savills and Strutt & Parker. The meeting was an opportunity for firms to hear about the progress made to date and to become further engaged with the delivery of key activities in the programme. In the meeting each firm was asked to identify two to three Champions in both human resources and business who will act as key contacts in the organisation and for RREF. Champions will identify volunteers for activities such as school visits and the summer school and will promote the issues of the project internally as well as externally. RREF is now liaising with firms to set up meetings with Champions.

Summer School

RREF has received a number of applications from students who are interested in attending the Pathways to Property Summer School in July. The deadline for applications is the end of June. RREF is currently working with staff from the School of Real Estate and Planning to finalise the programme which will include academic led sessions, site visits, student life and employability talks, and social activities. Participants will stay in halls of residence on campus to experience life away from home. The event is being supported by RREF, staff and students from the School of Real Estate & Planning and volunteers from the real estate sector. An update on the Summer School will be available in the next newsletter.
