Access Internship Scheme 2012

Following on from the success of the pilot year of the Access Internship Scheme in 2010, we have secured a number of firms who will participate in the scheme during this summer and host a Reading student for a 4 week internship.

The Access Internship Scheme aims to address issues relating to widening access to the profession by helping students overcome some of the obstacles to participation. Previously we have assisted those students who are unable to undertake unpaid work experience due to financial reasons and those who have no family or friend connections to help them get that all important 'foot in the door'. Last year we placed 12 students with 10 host firms and this year we already have the capacity to support 17 students which is a fantastic achievement. Following the internship, one student was offered a full time position upon graduating from a company who had previously rejected him in the early part of their recruitment process and another firm extended their intern for another 4 weeks fully funded - great news for all involved!

Access Internship Scheme 2012"I was lucky enough to be selected for one of the Access Internships last summer, giving me a month's paid work experience. This was an invaluable and thoroughly enjoyable experience giving me a chance to apply the knowledge I had gained in my first year to practical situations and see how the industry worked first hand. Without the help and support of RREF it would have been very hard for students who don't have family or friends in the industry to get their foot in the door, and I am very grateful to RREF for giving me the opportunity to do so." This summer we have already secured 15 firms who will be hosting 17 interns between them. Briant Champion Long, CBRE, CoStar, Cushman & Wakefield, EC Harris, GE Capital Real Estate, Gerald Eve, GL Hearn, GVA, Hines UK, Jones Lang LaSalle, Knight Frank, Savills, SEGRO and Vail Williams have all agreed to participate and provide a structured programme of activity and experience for 4 weeks which is valuable to a student intending to enter the property industry.
