Funding for the Future: RREF Telethon 2014

The 2014 Telethon has raised a fantastic £8,800 to support the next generation of property professionals through the RREF Annual Fund. We are extremely grateful to all those alumni who have chosen to make a donation and, in doing so, are helping to build for the future of real estate and planning.

All of RREF's initiatives are funded by donations, which require the continued commitment of a number of people. The Annual Fund is about collective philanthropy and supports four key areas within Real Estate & Planning: widening access to real estate education and the profession, innovative teaching and learning, research talent and the provision of bursaries and scholarships.

RREF is working hard to improve the futures of hundreds of young people each year and, thanks to the support of those alumni who have donated as part of the Telethon, there is so much more that can be achieved.

During the four week campaign, run from the Palmer building, a team of three students spoke with 108 Real Estate & Planning alumni. The student callers thoroughly enjoyed their conversations and took the opportunity to learn about the experiences of alumni, both whilst at Reading and after entering industry.

A total of 28 alumni chose to make a gift, 11 of which were regular gifts via Direct Debit. This is an incredible result. Regular donations make an enormous difference to what RREF can achieve as the combined support of a number of alumni translates into a significant resource. For instance, a gift of £15 per month, with Gift Aid, will raise £1,125 in five years. This is the equivalent of a bursary, which has the potential to change the life of a student struggling with the burden of financial hardship.

In addition to the far-reaching impact of the donations made during the campaign, the student callers benefited in numerous ways from taking part in the telethon. A stand out performance was delivered by Charlie Arden, a final year BSc Real Estate student, who enjoyed some brilliant conversations with former students and raised more than any other student caller. We would like to wholeheartedly thank Charlie for his hard work and are certain he will be a great asset to his chosen firm.Charlie_Arden_2

"I thoroughly enjoyed my time working on the RREF Telethon. Talking with so many alumni provided a fascinating insight into the industry from numerous perspectives. I also gained invaluable career advice which I will put into practice as I begin my career in property this autumn." Charlie Arden, BSc Real Estate

Thank you, once again, who all those who contributed to making the 2014 Telethon a success and to the many alumni who have generously donated to help us change lives.
