Leverage a truly global alumni community

Shanghai HBS AlumniDiscover the international alumni networks

By Veronika Kovacs, Alumni Relations Manager International & Volunteering, Henley Business School.

With China being home to Henley Business School’s, as well the University of Reading’s largest alumni community outside the UK overall, it was a timely initiative by a group of alumni to establish an Alumni Associations in the country at the start of 2016. We are delighted to see how many of our Henley Business School alumni, from across all our programmes, have become volunteers actively leading this initiative.

Chapters have been established in Shanghai, Beijing and Shenzhen and there was the opportunity to celebrate the new Alumni Association in Beijing and Shanghai at the end of April when drinks reception were held in Beijing and Shanghai, alumni had the chance to network with each other and meet with Gudrun Kuhlmeier, Head of Alumni Relations & Events for Henley Business School and Sue Martin, Head of Supporter Engagement and Alumni Relations for the University.

Gudrun Kuhlmeier said: “It was fantastic to meet over 150 alumni in Shanghai and Beijing and hear how connected to Henley Business School and the Whiteknights campus they still feel. The new Alumni Association will be a great focus point for ongoing alumni activity in China, catering for alumni from all programmes. For example, alumni from Real Estate and Planning represent about 5% of the over 2000 alumni for Henley Business School in the country, not quite enough to sustain the level of activity on offer to REP alumni in the UK, but by being part of the larger Henley Alumni Association it is easy to find and reconnect with former classmates and across different generations of alumni.”

Of course, China is not the only country with an official Henley Business School Alumni Group or Association. They are present across the globe from South Africa to Finland, from Trinidad to Australia and from Hong Kong to New Zealand just to mention a few. In fact, with 70,000+ alumni in over 150 countries you are likely to find fellow Henley alumni wherever your career or life may take you next. Real Estate and Planning alumni are already actively volunteering within these groups and associations; we have international volunteers from REP programmes in leading roles in some of the newly forming groups like India or the Republic of Ireland.

If you would like to take advantage of the greater Henley Alumni community and get involved with the Alumni Group or Association in your country, or in case there is none, explore the opportunity to possibly form one with the help of the Henley Alumni Relations Office, please email veronika.kovacs@henley.ac.uk , Alumni Relations Manager International & Volunteering.
