Global Campaign for Global School

GlobalCitizensPicAs the University launches its first national campaign we reflect on the role support for Henley Business School has on shaping the global citizens of tomorrow.

By Kerry Johnston, Head of Supporter Engagement and Events, Henley Business School.

June has seen the University of Reading launch its first national fundraising and volunteer campaign - IMAGINE - which we are proud to be a part of. The campaign is designed to support projects which enhance the University’s teaching and to enable vital research to help tackle the world’s biggest problems.

Henley Business School will be focusing on projects and opportunities that help us achieve our ambition of Shaping the Future of Business, in particular looking to bring business into schools, develop global citizens and support ethical business and diverse talents.

Since its beginning in 1946, Henley Business School has supported individuals to found new enterprises, turn around struggling companies, create household brands and rise to senior leadership roles in organisations throughout the world. At the heart of the Business School is an approach that equips students with a deeper and broader understanding of what is current, relevant and right in business.

One undeniable change in the world of business since the Business School opened its doors has been the impact of internationalisation and globalisation. As an international Business School, we aim to create truly global citizens in-which every student should have an immersive experience working or studying abroad and in turn use their skills to help others.

Such experiences include: intensive study trips providing insight to the management challenges of international firms; supported international volunteering activities working with social enterprises; and participating in international summer schools helping to widen students' networks.

Much of this work is only possible through the financial support we receive from our many supporters which helps to fund bursaries, scholarships and travel grants to help develop these global citizens.

This approach has been evident in the Real Estate & Planning courses for some time, and the commencement of the first Real Estate courses at our Malaysia campus has enabled the school to offer students the opportunity to carry out part of their course at an international location without interrupting their studies. This is further supported and encouraged by RREF through the provision of travel bursaries.
