Pathways to Property building awareness in schools

Learn about how Pathways has been raising awareness with young people and about the upcoming Summer School.

Following on from the success of the Teacher Engagement Event last year at The Shard, the second Pathways to Property event for teachers was held in March at The Leadenhall Building. 40 teachers and careers advisers from across London joined staff and students from the University of Reading and industry guests for an evening at one of London’s newest landmarks.

Guests were invited to a behind the scenes tour of the building led by British Land, JLL and DTZ before hearing from speakers including British Land, academics from the School of Real Estate & Planning and the Vice Chancellor of University of Reading. The event concluded with a networking and drinks reception where guests were able to speak with industry professionals whilst admiring the magnificent views from the 40th floor. The purpose of event was to strengthen relationships with schools in the city and support teachers understanding of the career and study opportunities in the real estate and planning sector, an area of which there is currently little awareness.

School Feedback
The feedback at the event and via email has been extremely positive and we have already received several requests for schools talks and enquiries about the Summer School which we are now following up. One teacher commented “This event represented the start of an initiative to promote careers in property. It’s a seed that needs to grow.”

Summer School 2015
Applications are now open to attend the third Pathways to Property Summer School which will take place on 27-30th July 2015 at the University of Reading. RREF and academics from the School of Real Estate & Planning are currently working together to plan a programme of activities for up to 100 students from state schools and colleges across the UK. Watch this video to see what last year’s students got up to in 2014.
