We are proud to have several Olympians among our alumni – but you don't have to be a serious athlete to get involved in sport at the University of Reading.
Whether you're an expert or a total novice, you'll find the ideal training session or team for you – in sports from archery to Zumba. If you just want to exercise or keep fit, we offer a gym and multiple exercise classes.
With over 50 sports clubs run by the Student Union Sports Federation, you can choose to play just for fun or compete in the BUCS (inter-university) leagues and tournaments.
We also have strong links with several local sports teams, most notably Redingensians Rugby Club.
As a student you will have access to the extensive sports facilities on offer, both indoors and outdoors. On campus you will find courts, pitches and playing fields for a wide range of sports, as well as a fully-equipped sports centre with gym.
Our outstanding sports facilities include:
Including a state-of-the-art fitness studio, specialist exercise studios, squash courts and large multi-purpose sports hall.
A wide range of pitches
From football, rugby, lacrosse, hockey and cricket pitches to tennis and netball courts. You will also have access to SoccerPark – our purpose-built floodlit pitches, equipped with the latest third-generation surface and a synthetic turf pitch for football and hockey.
Bulmershe Pavillion will open in 2014 with modern changing facilities for five football pitches.
The University of Reading is recognised as one of the best places in the country for rowers to study. Our world-class boathouse facility is on the River Thames, a 15-minute bike ride from campus. The boathouse includes a rowers' fitness gym, with professional coaching led by our Director of Rowing.
If you're an elite athlete, our Sports Scholarship scheme is design to support you throughout your time at the University of Reading. Scholarships range from free membership at our SportsPark to £5,000 financial awards.
